In regards to Inflator I much prefer Nebula stuff or when I need to be super-fast I’d always rich out for Decapitator or even free Nick Crow’s tube driver. MichalInteresting, because I’m doing a lot of classical and acoustic stuff and I can make Elephant to be practically invisible, much more so than Sonnox Limiter, saying that I’m not in the business of music destruction and never limit for the sake of loudness – mostly just to tame few picks here and there. For instance I like possible gradual "breakup" using automated curve and effect faders. Again, while I may like other flavors, it doesn't provide same effect as Inflator. IME, it isn't easily replaceable by standard waveshaper or saturator.
Which ones, i'm really curious, what you like instead of Inflator. I don't think Sonnox EQ replace for instance Pro-Q and vice versa, is more like complementary effects to me. for instance with regards to control surface mapping, which was mentioned by Spip. All your mentioned EQ's are really curve based with freely overlapping bands, which is for different workflow. I take Sonnox closer to for instance SSL channel EQ. Closest to it is maybe Elephant, but it isn't same. It works like kind of zoom to material without actually shrinking soundstage and bass, which I'm experiencing with other limiters and don't like. Example of this sound is factory preset "Clean gentle no enh". Personally I like some of your mentioned limiters (especially if your want to squeeze every bit of loudness from a material or for brickwall duties), but so far I can't find anything which replicates Oxford Limiter sound for delicate material. I definitely wouldn't say it cannot hold a candle.
